I’ve been needing to upgrade my clamp rack for a while now due to safety in the shop. Its out with the old and in with the new…
This is one of those shop projects that you’ll ask yourself,
“Why didn’t I do this sooner”?

Safety is becoming more of a concern as the kids get older and help out in the shop, but also for my students and any other visitors I may have. Because I had no safety in place, I had an issue with a clamp falling on my youngest son. You wouldn’t necessarily think about adding safety features to a clamp rack, but it’s definitely something to think about, especially with pipe clamps. I’m not saying it’s 100% fall proof, but my design is for sure a huge improvement and I can be a little more at ease when my kids or visitors are in the shop.
I used less than a half sheet of plywood for this entire project with the exception of the safety stops. I used a block of maple for those, but you could easily use a different wood and possibly plywood. Other than the support pieces there’s only two other main parts to this rack, the shelf and the back. You could even screw the dividers straight to a wall if you wanted to, but I think the back piece adds some strength to the overall rack. Of course not everyone will have the same clamps and most clamps are different in some way, but the general design is what works. I’m excited about getting my shop “into shape”. Not only will it be more inviting and motivating to work in, but it will be safer in the process. I encourage you to see for yourself. Thank you for clicking and reading. Please let me know your thoughts about the clamp rack and safety features in the comments down below.
